Abergavenny

From Ffaith

Abergavenny's history can be traced back to the establishment of Gobannium, a Roman fort built around in 57 or 58 A.D. Some sources claim that the actual birth of the town dates to the Norman conquest of Wales in the late 11th century when Hamelin of Ballon, the conqueror of northern Gwent, built a motte and bailey castle at Abergavenny (1087).
