Arthur Linton
From Ffaith
Arthur Linton was one of three brothers, all world class cyclists, from Aberaman, and a contemporary of World Champion Middle Distance rider Jimmy Michael.
Linton began his racing locally and established himself as a well known rider by 1892. National recognition came in 1893 when he was signed as a professional to ride a 'Gladiator' cycle under 'Choppy' Warburton. 1894 saw Arthur defeating Dubois, the French Champion, in Paris and a narrow defeat by the Italian Champion Bonnic, who staunchly refused to race him again. He was given the title of 'Champion Cyclist of the World' and returned to Aberaman in December to a hero's welcome.
