Colin Jones

From Ffaith

Born in Gorseinon, Colin Jones had already won British, Commonwealth and European welterweight crowns before he got a world title shot against Milton McCrory in Reno. The fight ended in a draw and the re-match, in Las Vegas, went McCrory's way in a split decision. Jones had his third shot at the title when fought Don Curry but was defeated. It was only the third time Jones had been bested in his career.

He was the youngest British boxer to qualify for the Olympic Games until Amir Khan appeared at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Jones was arguably the hardest punching welterweight of his generation with an ability to knock fighters out with a single shot with either hand.

He is an inductee of the Welsh Sporting Hall of Fame
