Bogey man
Millions of golfers all over the world have a Glamorgan club member to thank for the scoring system that has proved to be one of the game's greatest blessings. Towards the end of the nineteenth century Dr Frank Stapleton devised a scoring method based on a hole's "par" or "bogey" as it was then known. The Stableford System was a much fairer method of scoring than the then current system. The new system was announced in the South Wales Daily News in September 1898 but it wasn't until 16th May 1932 at Wallasay Golf Club in Cheshire that the system was first used. In 1952, seven years before Stapleford's death, the system was included in the end pages of the golfing rules books and moved to the main body of rules in 1968.
