Ernest Zobole
From Ffaith
Ernest was born on April 1927, in Ystrad Rhondda in South Wales, an important coal mining area at that time. His parents had emigrated from Italy in about 1910 to settle here. The Rhondda Valley and its industry was a melting pot of peoples from all over Europe, which was re-aligning itself after the First World War. From 1948-53 he studied for a Fine Arts degree at Cardiff College of Art and became one of the major representatives of the so-called Rhondda Group. Although Zobole lived and worked in a number of places in Wales, he spent most of his life in Ystrad Rhondda, where he died in 1999.
