Kicking Arsenal
Despite Scotland's Queen's Park reaching the FA Cup final twice during the nineteenth century with Glasgow Rangers reaching the semi-final, Cardiff City are the only non-English club ever to have won the famous trophy. Cardiff, led by Welsh International Fred Keenor beat the mighty Arsenal 1-0 in the 1927 final with a 73rd minute goal. It wasn't the first FA Cup final for City however. The Bluebirds had reached Wembley two years earlier, in 1925, losing out by the same scoreline to Sheffield United.
Slippery Customer
Arsenal's Welsh international goalkeeper is responsible for a superstitious practice at the football club. Dan Lewis' 73rd minute goalkeeping error in the 1927 FA Cup final caused Arsenal to lose the trophy to Cardiff City. Lewis put the blame for his failure on his slippery new jersey . To this day Arsenal goalkeepers refuse to wear a new jersey in a match until it has been washed.
Abide gyda fi
The 1927 FA Cup final also gave us another enduring first. The Cardiff City fans were among the first to sing the now traditional pre-match hymn "Abide with me" at the FA Cup final. Henry Lyte's famous hymn has been sung at the final on every occasion since 1927.
Gunned down
Wrexham hold the dubious honour of being the first club, finishing at the bottom of the football league in the previous season, to knock the reigning League Champions out of the FA Cup. Title winning Arsenal were roundly beaten 2-1 in the third round tie during the 1992 campaign. The Robins celebrations were short lived however, as they were beaten 1-0 by West Ham in the fourth round - but only after forcing a replay.
