John Randolph Anthony, or Jack as he was known was Grand National winner on three occasions - while still an amateur. His wins came in 1911 (Glenside), 1915 (Ally Sloper -owned by Lady Nelson, the first woman to own a National winner) and 1920 (Troytown). He also took the National Hunt jockeys title in 1914 as an amateur, and in 1928 as a professional.
Jack retired from the saddle in 1928 and took out a licence to train sending out Easter Hero, the dual Cheltenham Gold Cup winner, and Brown Tony (Champion Hurdle). He was the youngest of three brothers all of whom were successful in horse racing. Ivor Anthony won the National on Royal Mail in 1937 amongst his many other successes, and Owen Anthony who trained Music Hall the 1922 Grand National winner.
