Robert Recorde

Schoolchildren throughout Britain can thank a Tenby born Welshman for introducing Algebra to the curriculum. Robert Recorde, a physician to King Edward VI and Queen Mary, also invented the equals sign (=), or as he put it: "a paire of paralleles, or lines of one length because no two lines can be moare equalle."
